What exactly is a 'network based' church?
Most churches are churches for a parish - a geographical area.
Some churches are congregational – that is, people who ‘gather’ (congregate) usually in a church building for worship, teaching, prayer etc.
A network based church (or just network church) is a church for people who share an interest - say going to the gym or making music or because they have a professional connection, school teachers or solicitors - they meet as Christians because they are in that network rather than because they live in a certain geographical area. What they do and where, is shaped by the nature of the network (or interest) rather than by church tradition, or building or geographical area.
I heard of a church for surfers who meet on the beach and make a communion table by sticking surf boards in the sand and resting another across the top! Get the idea?
In our case, we aim to grow a network of small groups doing creative things such as; stained glass windows, card making, art & crafts, music & technology with Christian community at the centre. |
